God in the Fall

Happy Fall, Spiritual Sister!

Let me tell you! My daughter and I are so in love with the fall season. We anticipate the weather to start cooling off, and the cool breezes are perfect for soccer season. People may enjoy the pool for swimming on cooler days, use their hot tubs more, and soak in sitting on the porch since it won’t be so hot!

Football season is in high gear! My husband referees football, and we like supporting him. Additionally, we love tailgating at home or a friend's house and watching the games on Sunday. Oh! Don’t even get me started about College Game Day on ESPN. That is my happy place on Saturday morning. My daughter and I will ask (well beg) my husband to get our tubs of fall decor so we can decorate the house as soon as possible.

Our decoration includes lots of pumpkins in different shapes, sizes, and textures. All the colors of fall such as shades of brown, orange, and red will be displayed on the tablescape. We also add a splash of turquoise and shimmery pumpkins for fun! We place enough decor in the living room and kitchen area to feel fall vibes, but we don’t overdo it. At the entrance of the door, we place a fall wreath, and that’s about it. Not too much and not too little. We have just enough.

We start planning well in advance for my daughter’s birthday. She is an October baby, but she feels the planning must begin as soon as she senses the fall season. She makes plans and outlines all the little things she wants. Her father and I take notes and plan accordingly. She is our little princess, and we want her to stay our princess as long as possible. Time waits for no one. As long as she can be a kid and not deal with adult problems, let it be so. Therefore, it is Jill’s world, and we just live in it. LOL.

Experiencing God’s goodness in the fall means a lot to me. My daughter was born in this season, and it became one of my favorite times of the year. I also gained a love for football over the years after my mother passed away. She was a huge Dallas Cowboys fan. The biggest fan I knew! I can remember the Super Bowl parties even as a young child. I remained neutral over the years between Dallas and the New Orleans Saints, but that changed. I will root for the Saints, as long as they are not playing Dallas (smile). Yes, we are a torn family when it comes to football teams, but it still works. It makes the time for talking noise more fun.

God continues to amaze me. My mother was buried in October, and yet, my daughter was born in October. While I mourned my mother’s passing, I learned to rejoice in her being present with God. I can also rejoice that God blessed me to bring a new life in the same month that I mourned such loss. Instead of mourning a loss of life, I can rejoice for a gift of life. When I was in immeasurable pain from the loss of my mother, I prayed for healing, and I got it. When I became pregnant with my youngest child, I prayed for a baby girl, and I have my baby girl here with me. See how God turns things around?

How do you experience God in the fall season? What memories do you hold dear?

“There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens…”

Ecclesiastes 3:1

Have fun in the fall, Spiritual Sister.

Sincerely,

Val
