Greetings Spiritual Sister,
I cannot help but rejoice in May! The sounds of the words “relaxation” and “vacation” were once so faint and distant from my ear, but now!... Oh, but now! In May, I can hear them loud and clear!
For me, May is a special opportunity because this month marks the beginning of the off-season for my family and me. The work schedule is not so busy, and kids will be out of school soon. It’s the homestretch. We are rounding third and sliding into home. The game is about to be over, and we will win! Why? Because learning took place. I am a year older and a year wiser. I am more relaxed because I see a vacation or stay-cation in my future. I can reflect on the first half of the year and make mid-course corrections.
What does vacation look like for me? Honestly, my husband and I spend so much time working and going to kids’ activities throughout the year that we miss being at home! LOL! Therefore, our house becomes the ultimate summer retreat. While we would love to plan an elaborate vacation each summer, we find that a short weekend getaway and exploring attractions in our surrounding area are more than sufficient. We have a great time on a dime, and that is the perk of living in the Greater Houston area! There is always something to do and somewhere to go!
Cruises are fun, and resorts are awesome! However, if we don’t get to schedule something more elaborate, our home retreat with nearby attractions works just fine. We can also have fun at our property outside of town at our Lake Resort community. It has a super country atmosphere and is a considerable distance from city life, just like we like it (smile).
Ultimately, vacation is an opportunity to reset and enjoy moments, not be exhausted. Let time stand still and soak in fun, relaxation, restoration, and renewal. If I am not at peace on vacation, it’s not a vacation. Therefore, I remember my priority is to simply enjoy the time spent with family and keep the agenda nice and light. Whether it is a daycation, staycation, or vacation, the goals remain the same, and fun, for me, is feeling relaxed and at peace with a little fun and excitement on the side.
Ecclesiastes 4:6
Better one handful with tranquillity than two handfuls with toil and chasing after the wind.
Enjoy your vacation break from working and the hustle and bustle of life, Spiritual Sister.
Sincerely,
Val
