Dear Spiritual Sister,
Happy 4th of July to you! What a wonderful day to celebrate being free. History tells us this day marks the official Declaration of Independence, which is the day the United States declared freedom from the control of Great Britain. Could you imagine the relief people felt? Finally, they were free.
The Declaration of Independence is one of the most important documents in American history, and many people lost their lives for such freedom. The 4th of July is a great day to be grateful! Engaging in war and fighting for freedom is an important and worthy cause. Today, it is still important.
Additionally, holidays are always a great reason to gather family and friends to celebrate and have a great time! Our 4th of July celebrations tend to go a little like this: a spread of grilled meats, yummy side dishes, a few sweet treats, a cool selection of beverages, and a pool for swimming on a hot summer day. Patriotic colors of red, white, and blue are visible in clothing, decorations, and maybe even food. Yes, that is the good life. Isn’t it? After celebrating, we rest and reflect on the great moments of the day. Freedom feels nice.
If we view freedom from a spiritual perspective, we have a reason to celebrate freedom every day. I can explain it in one word: Jesus. God sent his son to set us free from a sinful world. Now, that's certainly freedom in my book.
Believers declared freedom when Jesus saved them, and they accepted Jesus in their hearts. Now, as believers, we shine our light so that others may see what living in freedom looks like from the inside out. You don't have to fight for this freedom. You need only to accept Christ and be sincere about it. You can choose to be free every day.
As you enjoy living in a free country this 4th of July, do not forget you are free from the inside out because Jesus saves.
“He who the son sets free is free indeed.”
John 8:36 NIV
