Happy Winter, Spiritual Sister!
It is official. Winter is finally here! Baby, it is cold outside! Well, maybe not in the South, but we get cold fronts…sometimes (smile). We rarely get a true winter. If it snows, we make a big deal out of it! More often than not, we tend to get a mixture of all seasons wrapped in one. It’s just the way it is, but this does not stop me from enjoying winter.
While I prefer the transitional seasons like fall and spring for awesome weather because these seasons are not too hot and not too cold, I appreciate all seasons, even winter. A sense of renewal and transformation is in the air. Many people will proclaim, “New year, new me.” Whether they live up to it or not is their choice, but embracing the idea of newness and positivity is a start!
I have been guilty of starting something great in the New Year and not keeping it up throughout the year. However, when I truly handed over the goal to the Lord and realized I had to make the choice to be self-disciplined, even the most difficult tasks were achievable. There is a difference between operating in your strength versus God’s strength. You also have to really be in tune with your "why" and minimize distractions.
When I was saved as a teenager, I did not realize the higher levels of spiritual growth. Similar to how a person matures from an infant to an adult, so does a baby Christian mature into an adult Christian. Many of life’s experiences sent me to higher spiritual levels only because I chose to embrace the growth that was ahead of me. Did I always make the choice right away? Nope. I am not ashamed to tell it. God met me where I was and worked on me. Some of these experiences weren't easy to endure. However, I appreciated the growth on the other side once I passed the test!
While I did not always embrace the test initially, I knew I wanted something more. God revealed that if I wanted to grow in certain ways, I needed to pass the current test in front of me. I had to be faithful with the little tasks even when I thought they were minute or frivolous. These tasks were important, but I had to wait for God to reveal the "why". If I refuse to pass the test in front of me or do not learn what I need to learn, I am similar to a student in school who cannot move on to the next skill until the prerequisite skill is mastered.
After seeing growth in this manner, I realized the tasks I wanted to accomplish on earth relied on a strong spiritual mindset because the forces at play are indeed spiritual, no matter how big or small the task. Whether you are on a journey to better health, a closer relationship with God, a new career, or enrolling back in school, make sure you are obedient in all your ways. With the Holy Spirit as your guide, a “new year” with a “new you” is coming. Trust God with it and do it his way. Besides? You don't want to prolong the blessing on the other side, do you?
2 Corinthians 5:17
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!
